How to apply

When you have found a job that you would like to apply for:

  • Download the details of the position from the Smart Jobs and Careers site. This includes:
    • the position description detailing background of the work area, roles and responsibilities and selection criteria
    • information outlining the procedure for preparing and sending in your application
    • an application cover sheet.
  • Do your homework by:
    • researching the role to understand the background
    • reading carefully the instructions on what to submit in your application
    • speaking to the contact person for more information on the role or process.
  • Prepare your application as directed. This may include:
    • completed cover sheet
    • covering letter
    • resume/curriculum vitae
    • names and details of two referees
    • responses to selection criteria.
  • Submit your application as outlined in the position description.
Responding to selection criteria

If the job you're interested in requires you to respond to selection criteria, visit the Guide for Job Applicants (PDF, 110 kB)* which will provide you with some useful tips on how to do this effectively.

Can I get feedback if I am unsuccessful?

Yes, once the selection process is complete, you can request feedback on your application. This can be provided verbally or in writing, and can help you to improve future applications and your interview technique.
